Designing our home started with the smallest things—like how our dog walks across the floor.
家づくりで一番最初に考えたのは、
「犬が床で滑らないようにするにはどうすればいいか」だった。
Not the wall color.
Not the layout.
But the feeling of paws tapping quietly across the room.
壁紙でも、間取りでもなくて。
最初に思い浮かんだのは、
フローリングを歩く“あの足音”の感触だった。
She’s a large dog. Strong, clumsy, and loving.
But on certain floors, she struggles—her legs slipping slightly, her body trying to correct herself.
彼女は大型犬で、力強くて、不器用で、やさしい。
でも、床がツルツルしていると、足が空回りする。
滑ってバランスを崩す姿を、何度も見てきた。
It made us uncomfortable.
Not because it looked bad,
but because it didn’t feel right.
それを見ていた私たちの心の方が、なんだかザワザワしてしまう。
“見た目”じゃなく、“感覚”として、正しくなかった。
So we began our flooring research with her in mind.
What material gives grip—not just for shoes, but for four-legged family?
だから私たちのフローリング選びは、レイチェルの足から始まった。
「靴」ではなく「肉球」にとって、滑りにくい素材はどれだろう？
Hardwood? No.
Glossy tiles? Definitely not.
Matte finish tiles with texture? That’s where we landed.
無垢材？ちょっと滑る。
ツヤのあるタイル？問題外。
最終的に選んだのは、
ほんのりザラつきのあるマットな質感のタイルだった。
And here’s the unexpected part:
the floor that’s right for her… turned out to be right for us too.
そして面白かったのは、
「彼女にとって良い床」は、
「私たちにとっても気持ちいい床」だったということ。
It’s easier to walk on in socks.
It absorbs light gently.
It feels grounded.
No slip, no shine. Just presence.
靴下でも滑らない。
光の反射も柔らかい。
床が床らしく、ちゃんとそこに在る感じがした。
Designing for someone else—especially someone who can’t speak—
sharpened our senses.
誰かのために設計すること。
しかも言葉を持たない“誰か”のために。
それが、私たちの感覚を研ぎ澄ませてくれた。
What started as a small kindness for her,
became a fundamental layer in how we define comfort.
“その子”のためのやさしさが、
私たちにとっての“心地よさ”の定義そのものになった。
Because a good house doesn’t start with a statement.
It starts with a feeling.
いい家は、コンセプトじゃなくて、
“違和感のなさ”から始まる。
